Fresh off of my own maternity leave, I am so delighted to have captured these family moments in baby Lia's first week of life. Congratulations, Alison and Chris!
You may or may not have noticed, but I've had a short hiatus from formally shooting with clients since April. I'm happy to share with you what's been keeping me busy during this time off -- my baby girl, Alexandra Quinn. She is about 1 month old now and we've been adjusting to a family of 4 and re-acquainting ourselves with joining team-no-sleep!
Since newborn photography is one of my specialties, I absolutely loved being on the other side as a mommy. It's hard for moms to put themselves together so early after giving birth. Taking a shower is a luxury, and doing your hair and makeup is ridiculously hard to do when you're constantly sticking a boob in a little baby's face. And let's not get started about finding a dress to wear if you haven't already purchased one before the baby arrived. Ugh. I have a deep appreciation for my clients who choose to invest in a newborn lifestyle session, because it's a commitment to making memories for yourselves and the kids. In that manner, I wanted to take my own advice.
I also pride myself on teaching and mentoring. Ever since I've been learning, I've loved helping others to learn. This time, I had Tiffany Ho join me at my home. She's amazing and has been my assistant and associate photographer on client shoots over the past year. We walked through all the poses I typically shoot, worked on lighting strategy, and I was able to mentor in managing newborns with their wakeful/sleepy temperaments. I also have a ton of solo shots of the baby girl, but we will save those for another day.
Here are a few of our favorite shots of my very own family. Thanks for reading & looking in on these pictures - they mean a ton to me and I can't wait to resume shooting in July for other families experiencing the same joy my husband, Cory & first-born, Noah feel now. :) xo
This shoot is near and dear to my heart. First of all, we love the Keefer family -- our kids have played together since they were under a year old and since becoming friends, 4 kids between our families have appeared! Second, this was my very last shoot before going on maternity leave, and it was bittersweet to take some time off simply because I love being behind the camera looking at these sweet faces all the time.
Emily hesitantly smashed her little pink cake and the older kids couldn't get enough of helping her finish off the dessert (including Dad). And after it all, we were having so much fun that we continued the party at Pizza My Heart for a quick dinner before saying goodbye for the evening.
Finally, I couldn't help but to share this bonus photo of our son, Noah and Emily's big sister, Audrey taking in the cake. Toddlers are so funny. They're like little, sweet scavengers... :)
Special thanks to my husband, Cory for assisting!
This family is just the right balance of cute & silly! We spontaneously met at the Palace of Fine Arts just before the holiday season for their Christmas card, and it was one of the most fun mini sessions I've had! Great to meet you, Monica & family! Here are some of my favorites from our whirlwind family portrait session:
We met bright and early at Precita Park before 8am and I absolutely loved spending time with this beautiful family on a sunny San Francisco day. Delia is 9 months old and her adorable parents, Ilyse and Justin had a wonderful idea to give her some portraits in a neighborhood she loves. Lucky for us, the trees were blossoming and we got tons of smiles (with few fun outtakes at the end of this post).
We had several friendly neighborhood folks stop by to comment on how amazing this family looked, and they had a ton of fun making baby Delia laugh -- it turns out this lil girl is a doggy person! And when she wasn't feeling the camera, daddy played along... :) Stay silly, beautiful fam!
